Mar Aphrem church Vadavathoor was the hub of Christian life in and around the Vadavathoor, Manganam and Nattaserry of Kottayam district. It is one and only church dedicated to Holy saint Mar Aphrem in syrian christian church at Malankara.
It is 5 km away from the city of letter, latex & lakes, Kottayam and 4 km away from the St. Mary's church Manarcadu.
During 1988 to 1989 period, vivid colourful functions were conducted for about a year to mark the silver Jubilee of the church.
Every year on the 23rd Nov. the Valiyaperunal of the church is being celebrated. And the parish day is being celebrated on every first Sunday of November.
Every Sunday the holy Quarbana starts on 7.30 am and every first Saturday 7.00 am. Twice in a month, prayer meeting has been conducted at homes of the parish members.
On every first Saturday evening prayer(Sandhya Prathana) is being conducted at the Vadavathoor shrine and every Saturday at the church.

History says that, Syrian Christians of Manganam, Vadavathoor, Nattassery areas in Vijayapuram panchayat, Kottayam, Kerala, India; were the members of the traditional old Syrian church named St. Mary's Jacobite church Manarcadu.
Because of inconvenience in transportation to St. Mary's church Manarcadu the members of the above places decided to build a church. Thus in Malayalam era kollavarsham 1050 they built St. Peter's church Manganam. After some time due to the indifference in belief the Syrian Christian's left St. Peter's church Manganam and joined to their parent church, St. Mary's Manarcadu. St. peters church adopted Marthoma faith.
Once again the Syrian Christian church believers of the above places joined together on 16/10/1938 and decided to built the church with an area of 12.6 m x 7.2 m (l x b) for their worship. They selected Vadavathoor as a convenient place.
For the church Mr. Chandy Mathen, Onpathuparayil family voluntarily had given his 55½-cent of property. Chelampath Korah and Thannikal Uthup have given their land for constructing the road from K K Road.
With the donation and presence of the well-wishers and those who wished to join the parish, the church was built within an year.
The consecration of the church was done by H.H Michael Mar Dionysius and given name as Mar Aphrem Jacobite church Vadavathoor. On 22nd Thulam 1116 Mar Aphrem church became an independent parish in the Kottayam diocese. Fr. C M Thomas, Seetharkuzhy was appointed as the first priest of the church. Later he was ordained as H. H Thomas Mar Osthasthios Metropolatin.
In 1947 near the K K Road, 200 meters away south from church, the church shrine was been consecrated.
During 1952 parish administrative office had been built. From 1955 to certain years the parish administrative office was used as the office of the Kottayam diocese.
As the increase of the numbers of parish members, the church was renovated and consecrated on 23 Nov. 1986 by H.H.. Baselios Paulose II Catholicose of the East with the Holy presence of H. H Geevarghese Mar Gregoriose, H. H Thomas Mar Osthathiose and H.H Yuhanon Mar Philoxinos.
Golden jubilee of the church was been celebrated during the year 1988 - 89. As a monument of the golden jubilee of the church a shrine was constucted at Vadavathoor junction.
Now the church has got a beautiful parish hall with a capacity of 500 and a parish building with every organization got a room in it, it has been constructed during.
After realizing the need for a permanent hall for the church organizations to conduct spiritual and cultural programmes and there was no hall in and around Vadavathoor, the Church members decided to build a Parish Hall cum Office. The dream got cherished on 22 November 1996.The Parish Hall and Office Building was consecrated by H.H.Gregorious Mor Geevregious and the foundation stone was laid by H.H. Abraham Mor Climes.
Sunday School building was build and consecrated on 23rd November 2000 in the memory of Golden Jubilee of Sunday School which was celebrated in the year.
